Student Spotlight: Aisha Thermidor

In anticipation of the 2019 Howard University BottomLine Magazine, we will be featuring school of Business students that represent the name and brand of the School of Business. Features will consist of student spotlights, student reflections, graduating senior reflections, and study abroad accounts.

Aisha Thermidor is a Junior Computer Information Systems major from Queens, New York by way of Haiti. She is a member of the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi, Iota Rho chapter as well as their Brand Manager. She is a HUSA senator of the School of Business, the community service co-coordinator for YAALI, and a member of the 7th class of Freshman Leadership Academy.

RJ Cole Enters NBA Draft

After a great season with Howard University men’s basketball team, MEAC player of the year RJ Cole has declared for the draft.  Cole is a sophomore Finance major from Union NJ. Cole will hold onto his college eligibility but will test the waters in the draft. He is a relentless scorer averaging 22.3 points per game in conference and 21.7 in all other games. Cole was also selected as the MEAC player week 5 times this season, and selected to the First Team All-MEAC for the second consecutive season. Black to the Future

In partnership with Chevy, the American automobile division of General Motors, students enrolled in the Marketing Communications class each semester in School of Business are tasked with hosting an event to promote their vehicles. The Fall 2018 Marketing Communications class, also known as “Prestige Worldwide”, created a successful activation featuring one of their electric models. Though no longer in production by Chevy, the Volt was one of the main sources of attraction at the event.

Inspired by the classic film Back to the Future, Black to the Future was based on the culture of the 90’s. Using the futuristic Chevy vehicle in the same way as the DeLorean was used in the classic film, attendees were able to travel back in time. To portray this, the event hosted by Prestige Worldwide featured vintage costumes, a t-shirt spray painting service, 90’s inspired decorations, and more. The Inaugural Sports and Entertainment Summit

In September 2018, the Howard University Sports and Entertainment (HUSE) Council held the very first Sports and Entertainment Summit right here in the School of Business. The School of Business has been historically successful at providing diverse opportunities to its students and the Inaugural Sports and Entertainment Summit serves as an extension. It is apparent that the sports and entertainment industry is constantly growing, and its development around the world calls for a plethora of new careers for business students.

Not solely limited to Howard University students, the Sports and Entertainment Summit catered to students from various universities such as New York University, University of Richmond, Hampton University and more. The summit touched on key topics prevalent in the industry such as gender equality, activism, and the challenge of simply being a black professional in the field.
